Portugal 55-man preliminary list for 2022 World Cup

Media outlet CMTV (via RMC) has revealed Fernando Santos’ Portugal 55-man preliminary list for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 55-man list will go down to 26 names on November 10. Portugal start their tournament against Ghana on November 24 before clashing with South Korea and Uruguay.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is listed despite his struggles at Manchester United. The attacker makes the list despite only starting two Premier League games this season.

Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota misses the tournament. Jota suffered a muscle injury in his club’s win over Manchester City and left the pitch on a stretcher.

Goalkeepers: Diogo Costa (FC Porto), Rui Patricio (AS Roma), Jose Sa (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Anthony Lopes (Olympique Lyonnais), Rui Silva (Real Betis).

The Selecao will hope they can go further than last time at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Uruguay eliminated Portugal in the round of 16 and they will be desperate to push further.
