Evenepoel wins Portuguese One Day Race

After an attack with more than 50 kilometres remaining, Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) crossed the finish line in Figueira da Foz by alone to win the second edition of the Figueira Classic.

World time trial champion Evenepoel finished first in the 192-kilometer Portuguese classic, clocking in at 04:42.25 hours. He came ahead of Italian Simone Velasco (Astana) and fellow countryman Vito Braet (Intermarché-Wanty), who finished second and third, respectively, at 01.48 minutes, the highest Portuguese placing was and eighth with Ruben Guerreiro (Movistar).

Remco Evenpoel takes over for fellow Soudal Quick-Step rider Casper Pedersen of Denmark, who won the races first edition last year. This season, the race was elevated to the UCI ProSeries level, the second most prestigious on the world calendar.
