CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced that DMDK would contest in five seats in the AIADMK alliance. Puthiya Tamilagam and SDPI will contest in one seat each.
Puthiya Tamilagam leader K Krishnasamy signed a poll deal with Palaniswami to contest from Tenkasi (Reserved) constituency.
“Talks are on to finalize the seats for DMDK.It will be announced tomorrow,” Palaniswami told reporters at AIADMK headquarters.
He listed support extended by parties, such as All India Forward Bloc, Puratchi Bharatham, Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi, Republican Party of India and Tamil Maanila Muslim League for the general election.
Rejecting the criticism that AIADMK was sidelined by its erstwhile allies of the BJP-led NDA, Palaniswami said the party did not rely on an alliance but facing the general election ‘courageously’ as people of Tamil Nadu would extend full support to the AIADMK that ruled the state for three decades.
“We stand on our own. If they come for an alliance with us, we will welcome them. Will be happy even if they don’t,” the former CM said, adding that the popularity of AIADMK had risen manifold and AIADMK and its allies would win all 39 seats and a lone seat in Puducherry.
Hitting out at the DMK regime for price rise, deterioration of law and order and lack of projects in the last three years, he said there was no use of electing 38 MPs of DMK and its allies in the last general election as members had not exerted pressure on the Centre to get projects or funds to the people of Tamil Nadu unlike the AIADMK’s MPs of 2014-19.
“Our MPs will lend their voice to the people and reclaim the rights of the state. That is our goal and dream,” Palaniswami said.
He accused the DMK of fooling the people by making false poll promises, including dispensing with NEET soon after assuming charge.
